Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 16, 2026

This is a plain-language summary of how we handle your data. It's meant to be easy to read, not to replace the real thing. The full legal version is the binding document.

Open Invite is a social event-sharing app where friends post what they're doing and others can join in. Here's how we handle your data.

The short version: we collect what we need to run the app, we don't sell your data, we don't run ads, and we don't track you.

What We Collect

Account info

  • Email address — to create your account and send transactional emails (circle invites, password resets)
  • Display name — shown to other users
  • Password — hashed and stored securely; we never see or store your plaintext password
  • Profile photo — optional, stored in our cloud storage
  • Google account info — if you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile photo from Google

Content you create

  • Plans — name, description, date/time, location, cover images, links
  • Circles — group names and membership
  • Polls — poll options, votes, and suggestions
  • RSVPs — your attendance status and optional comments
  • Comments and reactions — on event threads

Location data

When you add a location to a plan or poll, we store the place name and coordinates you provide. We use a geocoding service (Photon, hosted by Komoot) to convert place names to coordinates. Your search query and approximate device location (if you've granted location access) are sent to this service to improve results.

We do not track your device location in the background. The “locate me” button on the map is a one-time browser request that stays on your device.

Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics to see anonymous, aggregate page view data (which pages get visited and how often). It's cookie-free, doesn't track individual users, and doesn't collect personal info. No tracking pixels, no ad SDKs.

Cookies

One authentication cookie to keep you signed in. That's it. No third-party cookies, no tracking cookies, no advertising cookies.

How We Use Your Data

  • To run the app — showing plans, circles, RSVPs, and notifications to the right people
  • To send emails you or others initiate — circle invites and password resets (not marketing)
  • To enforce access control — making sure plans are only visible to people they're shared with
  • To improve the service — using anonymous, aggregate usage patterns

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties. Ever.

Third-Party Services

We use a small number of services to run the app:

  • Supabase (database, auth, file storage) — hosts your data on AWS in the US
  • Vercel (web hosting + analytics) — serves the app and collects anonymous page view analytics; may process your IP address in server logs
  • Google OAuth — if you sign in with Google, subject to Google's Privacy Policy
  • Resend (email delivery) — sends circle invite and password reset emails on our behalf
  • Pexels (cover images) — when you search for cover images, your search query goes to the Pexels API; no account data is shared
  • Photon / Komoot (geocoding) — converts place names to map coordinates; your search query and approximate location (if granted) are sent for better results
  • OpenFreeMap (map tiles) — provides the base map imagery; no user data is shared

Who Can See Your Data

Open Invite is private by default. Your plans are only visible to people in the circles you share them with, or people you directly invite. Your profile is visible based on your discoverability setting (which you control in Settings).

We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

Data Retention

We keep your data as long as your account exists. When you delete your account (in Settings), we permanently delete everything — profile, plans, RSVPs, comments, circle memberships, notifications. This is irreversible.

Your Rights

You can:

  • See your data — everything you've created is visible in the app
  • Edit your data — update your profile, plans, and RSVPs at any time
  • Delete your data — delete individual plans, comments, or your entire account
  • Control visibility — adjust discoverability, leave circles, change sharing on plans

EU/EEA and California residents have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA respectively — see the full legal version for details.

Children

Open Invite is not for users under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll always update the date at the top. For significant changes that affect how your data is collected or shared, we'll notify active users through the app.
